Frequenty Asked Questions
What makes our confections wholesome?
All of our confections are handmade using only organic, fair trade chocolates and fresh, natural, ethically- and sustainably-sourced ingredients. No preservatives or artificial colors. Real food for real people. Really good too!
Why do we use fair trade and organic chocolates?
Much of the world's chocolate is made in regions where workers are exploited, enslaved or otherwise mistreated. Child labor is another critical concern with most chocolates and we don't want to help young people here in Kalamazoo at the expense of a child in South America or West Africa. Fair Trade chocolate is certified to have been cultivated, harvested and produced humanely and sustainably. We use organic ingredients because they are better for you and for the environment.
Where do we get our chocolates?
Most of our chocolate comes from Fair Trade farmers in Peru. We also source Fair Trade chocolate from Ecuador, Venezuela, Tanzania and the Dominican Republic.
Are our chocolates nut free?
Confections containing peanuts, tree nuts, wheat and soy are made in our kitchens. We are committed to purity and cleanliness to limit cross-contamination, but cannot guarantee that our products are free from these allergens.
What about dairy and gluten?
All of our vegan confections are dairy-free and all of our confections are gluten-free unless otherwise noted.
How long do the truffles and caramels last?
Our chocolates are made with fresh, natural ingredients using none of the preservatives or stabilizers found in commercially made chocolates that are added to prolong their shelf life. We recommend consuming our chocolates within two weeks of purchase for the best product quality and freshness.
How should you care for your chocolates?
Our truffles and other chocolate confections are best stored in a cool, dry place (60-65 degrees) and enjoyed at room temperature. If you need to store them longer than two weeks, we recommend refrigerating or freezing in an air-tight zip-lock container. To avoid condensation developing on the chocolates, let them warm to room temperature before releasing the seal.
Do we sell any other items in the store?
Yes! You can find all of the same products we sell online in our store - and so much more! Dale is always adding something new, so be sure to ask what's in season. It could be a seasonal bark or bite, a holiday-themed truffle or a new vegan caramel!
Do you ship?
We are now offering shipping to the continental U.S. and endeavor to use compostable, biodegradable and environmentally-responsible materials in all of our packaging. Orders may be placed on our website and will be shipped same day if received before 12 p.m. Eastern. All orders received after 12 p.m. will be processed on the following day. We offer shipping through USPS or UPS and recommend no slower than two-day delivery, overnight if shipping somewhere warmer than 70 degrees. Unfortunately International shipping is not available at this time.
Can I sign up for a class, tasting or tour?
We offer scheduled tours and tastings at our Kalamazoo workshop at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. every Friday and Saturday. We also offer tours and classes to local groups on a limited basis upon advance request.
Do we cater special events?
Over the years, it's been our pleasure to be a part of many weddings and other special events. Whether you need help with favors, your dessert table or wedding party gifts, we'll work with you to come up with something meaningful and sweet. Check out our storefront on theknot.com to see a few examples of our previous work!
